The International Motor Insurance Certificate, also known as the Green Card, is an international insurance certificate that is accepted by the authorities of all 50 countries of the Green Card system without any obstacles or costs.
A Green Card is issued in Ukraine by insurance companies that are MTIBU full members under the authority of the MTIBU.
- It certifies that a visiting vehicle has at least the minimum compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance cover as required by the law of the country visited.
- It provides a guarantee for the visited country that the insurer of the vehicle's country of origin will reimburse the victim's damage in accordance with the rules applicable in the visited country. In this way, the victim of an accident caused by a foreign vehicle is properly compensated for the damage suffered.
A Green Card covers damage caused by the driver of the secured vehicle to third parties in the territory of the member countries of the Green Card system specified in such a certificate.
Damage caused by a foreign driver is indemnified by a foreign liability insurer of such a driver, and damage caused by a driver of an uninsured vehicle is indemnified by the National Bureau or the Guarantee Fund of the country of the accident (actions of a driver in an accident abroad).
